ENROLMENTS TOTAL 6606

APPLICANTS CLASSIFIED 1 Applications received up to 9 a m. yesterday for enrolment in the national military reserve totalled 6600. Wellington is still in leading position with 1054 enrolments, and Auckland has the next largest number. 971 Of the provincial centres Hamilton and Napier have made a particularly good showing with 576 and 502 enrolments respectively. ceived in each postal district, together with the classification to which the enrolments have been allocated, are given in the table published below. Class 1 are the men from 20 to 35 years of age inclusive who have served during peace time for not less than two years in the New Zealand Territorial Army or any of the military forces of the Empire. Class II are returned soldiers and exregulars between the ages of 35 and 55 years: Class 111 are men between 36 and 55 years not eligible for Class 11. RUGBY COUNCIL’S SUPPORT Following the decision reached at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Rugby Union on defence, the New Zealand Rugby Council decided yesterday to give further support by asking all unions to do all in their power to encourage footballers to respond to the Prime Minister’s appeal for volunteers. Several delegates explained that their unions had already taken action, the response being highly satisfactory. Lieutenant-Colonel T. J. King said that the strength of units in the main centres was well up to expectations.
