GREENACRES GOLF CLUB

SUCCESSFUL OPENING After unavoidable postponements for climatic reasons, the official opening of the new Greenacres Golf Club proved an unqualified success, and while the attendance was reduced through untimely yet welcome rain, the event proved most enjoyable. The president. Mr R. M. Shirtliff, opened the course with a happy little speech which immediately created the cordial atmosphere which marked the day throughout.

Mrs R. M. Shirtliff drove the first ball in a manner well worthy of the occasion and was the recipient of a suitably inscribed golf ball, presented to her on behalf of the club by Mr J. Colquhoun, club captain. The ensuing games produced golf of a standard very creditable to the players and also the ground; the greens being the subject of much compliment. The profusion of natural hazards which are incorporated in the architecture of the course give a touch of variety favourably commented on by the visitors. The ladies of the club are to be congratulated on the excellence of the afternoon tea.

The day ended with mutual expressions of good fellowship and the unanimous conviction that the Greenacres Club has commenced a long and successful career.
