Difficulties faced by several firms in supplying contract lines to the Auckland Hospital on account of import restrictions were mentioned in a report of the finance and purchasing committee to the hospital board to-night. Advice had been received from one firm of wholesalers, the committee reported. that it was unable to deliver further quantities of a variety of tinned fish. It had also been stated that another contractor was encountering difficulty in obtaining salmon. The committee recommended that, where it was definitely proved thai inability to*supply was the result of import restriction, the firm involved should be relieved of its responsibility. Every case was to bp dealt with on its merits, and important instances reported to the finance committee for decision. Advice was also received frojri an Auckland firm that becaase of delay of the Customs Department in granting the necessary license, jt would guarantee to fulfil regular requirements for g Special disinfectant for another three months only. The committee reported that the letter had been forwarded to the Cus- | to which had been pointed out the necessity of his supply for hospital purposes, and the unsuitability of local products. The committee's recommendation was adopted.
