MUSIC, DANCING AND j ELOCUTION THIS MORNING’S RESULTS The Nelson Competitions were continued in the Theatre Royal and the Oddfellows' Hall to-day, there being j good entries in most classes. Song and dance numbers were features of the morning's programme at the Theatre Royal, and recalls will be heard at tonight’s concert. Humorous recitations figured prominently in the elocution section, and winners and recalls in several of these classes will be included in this evening’s programme. Tap dance finalists and ballet in costume finalists should also be popular numbers to-night. This morning’s results were:— ELOCUTION (Mr J. R. Lester.) Recitation, girls, own selection, humorous under 14.—Lois Boyes, “Keeping Seats at a Benefit Concert,” and Heather Freeman (Hope), “The Telephone Girl,” recalled. Recitation, girls, humorous, under 12. —Megan Ashton (Tahunanui), “I’ve Got The Mumps,” and Joy Bell, “The Shoe Shop.” recalled; Shirley Thomas, “The Smack in School,” 3. Recitation, boys, humorous, under 12. —Raymond Smith, "The Lion and Albert,” 1; Dennis Win, “So Was I,” 2. Recitation, boys, humorous, under 9. — William Baldwin, “An Unwilling Orator,” 1; Frank Baldwin, “Tommy’s Dreadful Drec.m,” 2. “Both competitors were rather nervous and were a little lacking in expression and animation,” remarked the judge. The ensemble was very good and the rendering musicianly. The balance and general understanding between them held to the conclusion,” commented the judge.
