MAITAI BOWLING CLUB

MEETING OF COMMITTEE VARIOUS MATTERS DISCUSSED A meeting of the committee of the Maitai Bowling Club was held last evening, the president, Mr H. R. Dodson, being in the chair. The business was chiefly of a "washing up” nature consequent upon the close of the season. Votes of sympathy in bereavements were passed to the relatives of the late Mr H. Ricketts, Wakefield, and the late Mrs GafTey, Richmond. A motion of appreciation of his fre- J quent visits to the green, his kindly thought in supplying apples on those occasions, and his assistance in connection with the present operations on the playing area, was passed to Mr C. Higgs, of Mapua, and it was decided, subject to his consent, to make him an honorary member of the club. The question of arranging games on the indoor green during the winter, in ■ to bring members together, was discussed-* The president was of the opinion that some proposal along the lines suggested was overdue and that, if adopted, the move would be welcomed and supported by a fair number of bowlers. We would like to see the Maitai Club take the initiative, and he moved that the Nelson and Richmond Clubs b~. written to with a view to the arrangement of a series of games between the three clubs,'and if satisfactory progress is made, other clubs more distant from Nelson be invited to play friendly matches occasionally. The proposal was supported by other members of the committee and carried unanimously. It was also decided, if practicable, to arrange for one or two club competitions. The green committee reported progress on the work being undertaken in connection with the reconstruction of the playing area. The green has been completely ploughed to a depth of ten inches by a motor rotary hoe, and in this connection a special vote of thanks was passed to Mr W. Kenning. It was decided to obtain an enlargement of the group photograph taken on closing day for hanging in the pavilion. An effort is to be made to establish a "gallery” of photographs of past presidents, and any one who can assist in this direction is requested to communicate with the secretary.
