EIRE AND BRITAIN
MB DULANTY’S STATUS INTENTION TO RAISE LONDON. 26th March. One of the most important developments in the nstory of Comomnwealth relations will shortly be officially announced when Eire abolishes the post of High Commissioner in London. Mr J. W. Dulanty, the present High Commissioner. will be raised to the rank of Irish Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary, while a British Minister will be accredited to Dublin. Simultaneously Mr de Valera will establish direct diplomatic relations with the Dominions. Mr de Valera’s position is that Eire’s new constitution. adopted by plebiscite last year, makes the post, of Irish High Commissioner in London invidious. Canada and South Africa supported this standpoint. and Britain will now give full diplomatic recognition to Eire's new status. It is not known yet whether the posts held by Dominion High Commissioners in London will be affected, but it is considered likely that they also may be raised the rank of Ministers. Mr Dulanty will present his new credentials as Irish Minister at Buckingham Palace, while the first British and Dominions Ministers will be driven in state to Dublin Castle, where they will be received by Mr de Valera.
