DUNEDIN WOOL SALES
FULL BENCH OF BUYERS CROSSBREDS IN DEMAND [United Pres* Association ? DUNEDIN. This Day. i About 24.000 bales were offered at I the fourth wool sale. There was a full bench of buyers, with French operating within reasonable limits. There was a | heavier offering of crossbreds than i usual. The majority of catalogues had j particularly good sales for crossbreds. j Fine wools showed the effect of severe I winter conditions. Competition was i very erratic, and only good style cross-1 breds sold easily. Shabby half-bred? and merinos were neglected. There was a strong demand for skirtings, although 1 prices showed a decline on the last sale here compared with the last Christ- i church sale. Merino heavy was un- I changed, but crossbreds were quoted I dearer by about id to Id. Skirtings! were slightly better on Christchurch. | , the top price being 14d for seven bales j! of super half-bred hogget bought by J’ local firm. Buyers seemed afraid of! ' not getting the wool home in the event i ' of war. and passings were down aboul ' 10 per cent. <
