Tate, Conservative member of the House of Commons, not to contest the Frome seat at the next election because she intends to find a less costly constituency, adds: “She has apparently decided that, it will be impossible to resist the strong challenge from the Labour candidate, Mr R. W. G. Mackay, a former Sydney solicitor, who was only 994 votes behind her at the last election.’’

The voting in the Frome electorate in 1935 was: Mrs Tate (Con.), 19.684: Mr Mackay (Lab.), 18.690; Mr P. W. Hopkins (Li.). 4177.
