TROOPS CLOSING IN ON CANTON

The Chinese are steadily closing j, ;in on Canton. leaving the Japanese , j with the only outlet by the Pearl I River, which is at present being kep*, 1 clear only the overwhelming super- , iority of naval guns. The Chinese have captured the , strategic city of Maotsin on the Yellow j. River, thus removing the threat to their communications with Russia The Chungking correspondent of , “The Times” says that the Chinese j have occupied Tsengchen Tungshu, and Fushan. The Chinese have blown up four bridges on the Tientsin-Pakow railway, disrupting traffic between Tientsin and Nanking.
