LORRY-DRIVER ARRESTED
SEQUEL TO DOUBLE FATALITY CHARGE OF NEGLIGENT DRIVING ! | DUNEDIN, 17th April. I As a sequel to the motor accident near Mosgiel in which Mr Neil Harris, aged 24. and Miss Vera Thomson, aged 22, lost their lives, the police have ar- j rested William Alexander Tait. aged 30. ■ lorry driver, who works in Outram, but i who comes from Oamaru. ‘ Tait was J charged in the Magistrates’ Court with negligent driving causing death v and was remanded to 26th April on bail of £ 400. An inquest was opened and adjourned. The poignancy of the tragedy j is heightened by the fact that the victims were engaged and had been | spending the evening at Miss Thomson’s parents’ home, where her father | was celebrating his birthday. The father saw them off at 11.30 p.m. on Saturday night. Nearby residents heard a smash but the collision had thrown the bodies and the cycle off the road so nothing-was visible.
