LIGHT SHOWER IN CITY

BUT DROUGHT POSITION STILL UNRELIEVED The rainfall in Nelson for the year to date was very slightly increased last evening from 1.24in to the total of 1.27in —a light shower registering .03in. Incidentally. this was the first shower since 11th March; and served no more than to lay the dust temporarily. The rainfall in the country was slightly more, namely eleven points, as recorded at the Government Research Orchard at Appleby: bringing the total for the year to the meagre amount of 1.46in.

The barometer has remained remarkably steady at a high point for a long period now, and at noon to-day read 30.4; and the prospects of (he weather breaking up to relieve the district’s worst drought for 50 years appear still

To-day there was considerable cloud, but the sun shone through fet intervals.
