The dry conditions in the Manawatu are daily becoming more serious, and the question of maintaining the winter milk supply is causing a great deal of worry. Already milk vendors are experiencing difficulty in securing supplies, so that the prospects for the months ahead are far from encouraging. According to milk vendors, the | position definitely suggests that a ; rationing system offers the only method by which the limited supplies can be made to meet household requirements. Supplementary fodder generally fed in , the winter months is now being used in j an endeavour to hold the milk supply, j but without moisture the cows are failing to respond as it was hoped.
