RICHMOND BOROUGH AND TREES
(To The Editor? Sir,—ln the report of the Nelson A. and P. Association’s meeting in Monday's issue of “The Mail” I notice that that body had received a long and sympathetic letter from the Richmond Borough Council, regarding the danger arising from the gum trees at the Show Grounds and asking that something be done to obviate the menace. Now, Mr Editor, if the local body is afraid of falling limbs endangering tha public, why have they provided seating accommodation under same? Have notices been served on all property owners who have similar overhanging trees to have them removed? I think not. Reference could be mavle to a magnificent oak tree under which some hundreds of school children pass daily, completely overhanging the road,. If the City Fathers do not want to be accused of “inconsistent running” why have they decided that our Centennial Memorial take the form of a “Tree planting campaign."—l am etc. CABBAGE TREE MAN Richmond. 15th March.
