SHIP deserter fined ■WELLINGTON. Thi; Day. Stated to have been one of eight who deserted at the same time. Charles Keir McAnulty <35). ship's fireman, was lined £7 when he pleaded guilty of deserting from the Maimoa yt Wellington on 28th January Accused pleaded that conditions on the ship were not good, but Mr Luxford said lie would not accept that as an excuse.—P.A. message. COMMINTTED FOR SENTENCE WELLINGTON. This Day. Holding that he did not have the necessary' powers to deal summarily with the case, the Magistrate. Mr Luxford, ordered depositions to be taken in the case of Leslie Murray, aged 39, labourer, charged with theft at Grassy Camp. Nelson, on 6th December, 1929, of £l3 and £25. the property of the Now Zealand Workers’ Union. Murray pleaded guilty and was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence.—P.A. message.
