BOROUGH AFFAIRS MEETING OF THE COUNCIL | The fortnightly meeting of the Richmoinl Borough Council was held on Tuesday evening. Present: The Mayor (A. I It Tufftiell), Councillors Strafford, Norris, Poole, MoGlashen, Lukey, and Palmer. Accounts totalling £2b3 11s 6d were, passed for payment FOREMAN’S REPORT The foreman’s report was read and adopted as follows: The grader lias ben worked on the following streets and roads Waverley street, Church street, Lower Queen street, Beach road, and the State Highway. Wensley road ha s been gravelled from Oxford street to the top of Hillcrest. The following river gravel and sand has been tailed with the truck :—To Wensley road 19J. yards of river gravel and to tlie borough yard yards of sand. A water service pipe m Queen street has been renewed Several day’s work have ben done at the reservoir reserve cutting a tire belt and burning, but this work is not quite completed. I require a few yards of half-inch chips fo - patching with colasnhx. On the 24th iust. the water at the reservoir was 3ft 4£iuchcs below the spillway. CORRESPON DENCE The Nelson Automobile Association wrote pointing out the desirability or sealing that portion of Queen street between tlio railway line and the show ground. The Mayor stated it was very desirable that something should be done. It was stated that the A. and l*. Association Jockey Club and Trotting Club bad asked for a conference with the council at a later date. It was resolved that the Automobile Association be asked to send two delegates to the conference and the Mayor and deputy-mayor were appointed to represent the council at the cenference which is to be held iu the near future. INSPECTION OF TAPS ! The Mayor pointed out that the water question in tlie borough was becoming serious. The level of the water at the reservoir was now 40 inches below the spillway and it was very necessary that there should be no waste of water iu the borough. It was resolved on Councillor McGlas- : hen’s motion that an inspector be appointed to inspect the taps and water troughs in the borough. It was decided that Mr , H. Hawkins be appointed inspector for ; one week. WORKS COMMITTEE The Mayor reported that the works ! committee had inspected the site of the suggested footpath leading to the Alexandra Home, and alter hearing the report it was resolved that no action be taken i i the matter. FIRE BRIGADES EQUIPMENT The Mayor stated that representations had been made to tlie deputy-mayor and ■ himself by the officers of the fire brigade , that at present there were no adequate means of conveying the brigade’s equipment to the scene of a lire. After some discussion it was resolved that investigations be made regarding the cost of a suitable vehicle and that the matter be further considered when framing next year's estimates. ANZAC DAY It was resolved that the Mayor, deputymayor and Councillor Poole meet representatives of the R.S.A. to make arrangements tor the celebration of Anzac Day. UNREGISTERED DOG It was resolved that notice be served on a ratepayer who refused to register hi-' dog. The Mayor was authorised to work in conjunction with the county foreman iu connection with repairs to Chumpiou road.
