MRS LAURA AMELIA EDRIDGE l The funeral of the lale Mrs Laura | Amelia Erlridge took place on Tuesday, 2L>th February, at (he Nelson Cemetery, j A large, number of friends and relatives j of (he deceased ladv gathered first at the] home, where a short service was oondurt- | ed. and then at the graveside. The Rev. A. Fear conducted both services. The late Mis Edridge was bom in Nelson 53 years ago and was the elder dauglite of Mr and Mrs IL Jennens of Grove street. She spent t lie whole of her life i:i this city. In 1906 the late Mrs Edridge was united in marriage to Mr K. S. Edridge. Because of her genial and genercus nature the late Mrs Edridge made a large number of friends who will miss her greatly. There were a large number of beautiful floral tributes. Those who mourn her loss arc her husband Mr E. S. Edridge, 8 daughters and 2 sons. These include Messrs J. and YV. Edridge of Nelson, Mrs F. Jenner of Alexandra, (Central Otago), Mrs J. Sharp of YVellington, Mrs V. Stangcr, Mrs M. Parker, Misses Ida, Maire, Edna and Jean ! Edridge, all of Nelson. There are 6 grand- [ children. The pall-bearers at the funeral were: j Messrs W. Jennes, G. Jennens (brothers ' of the late Mrs Edridge). E. Jennens ; (nephew), J. Allen, M. Parker and E. ! Hargrave. The death occurred of Sir Ernest Cooper Riddle, governor of the Commonwealth Bank from 1927 to 1938, when he retired, aged 67. Sir Ernest Riddle was long connected with the Commonwealth Bank of Australia He was born in 1873 and was the son of Mr John Riddle, a pastoralist. His boyhood was spent on his father’s station, Gundamaine, at Nurrabi, where he received his schooling. In 1889 he began his banking career, joining the staff of the Bank of Australasia, with which he remained until the second year of the war. Li 1915 lie went to the staff of the Commonwealth Bank as manager at Perth. He remained there until 1923, when lie began a rapid rise which made him governor within a few’ years. In 1923 he went to Sydney as acting manager. The following year he was made chief inspector and stationed at Sydney. Later in the year lie became manager at Melbourne, hi 1925 he was appointed deputy governor and had held that post only two years when he became governor in June, 1927. He married, in 1899, Miss Anne Bibby, of Manchester, England. He is survived by one. son and one daughter. MR CULFORD BELL lUuiied Press Association! AUCKLAND, Ist March. The death occurred of Mr Clifford Bell, principal announcer at Station IYA Auckland, as the result of a surgical operation, lie was born in London and came to New Zealand thirty years ago after spending his young manhood in Canada and the United States. On the inauguration of Station IYA thirteen years ago he was appointed senior announcer. He was well known in dramatic and elocutionary circles throughout New Zealand.
