MAITAI BOWLING CLUB
CONDITION OF GREEN A special meeting oi' the committee of the Maitai Bowling Club was held last evening to consider action to be taken owing to the state of the green which has been causing some concern to the officials during the last few weeks. The president (Mr H. R.. Dodson) stated that the exceptionally dry weather combined with the almost continuous use of the playing area had resulted in considerable wear at the edges of the green and some action would have to be taken immediately to effect an improvement particularly as the green would be required for the Easter tournament. He had conferred with various persons with a knowledge of the upkeep of greens and it seemed to be the consensus of opinion that lack of water was chiefly responsible for the trouble and he considered that if the green was closed for play for three of four days during which a thorough saturation could given, followed by heavy rolling, and then ensure watering once or twice a week that a decided improvement would be effected. The Nelson Club had been promised co-operation for their Jubilee tournament and the use of the Maitai green was very necessary if that function was to be a success. He felt sure that the Maitai club members would be quite prepared to put up with a little inconvenience if by si doing they would reap some benefit iater on. After a lengthy discussion it was decided to close the green after the close of play 10-day until 'Tuesday afternoon next io: the purpose of watering, and that members be requested to attend at the green on Sunday morning to assist with the heavy roller. CENTRE CHAMPIONSHIP lhe following will represent the club at the centre championships at the Nelson green on Saturday next:— Senior champion ; YV. R. Martyn. Junior champion: A. De Lorenzo.
