In referring to the passing of Mr Jas. Lovell, the Mayor said deceased had given | long and faithful service (21 years) to the j Boiongh of Motueka as sexton. Green wrote tendering his resignation as inspector of dangerous goods, and hawkers’ licenses, as his health vvuidd not allow him to give proper attention to the work. The resignation is to take effect as from 31st March. Ull the motion of the Mayor and Councillor Hulbert it was decided that Mr Green’s resignation be accepted, and that the Town Clerk forward him a letter expressing the. council's appreciation of his services over a period of ten years. Tiie manager, State Advances Corporation of New Zeaalnd wrote stating that it had been unsuccessful in raising a loan of U 2400 m connection with the borough aerodrome. The writer regretted that at the moment the Corporation was not in a position to provide funds for works to be substantially completed in the next financial year, and that it was unlikely that any amount which the Corporation may find itself iu a position to offer would be of assistance lo the council. The conned was asked what portion of the loan would support the works to the end of March, so that the matter could be submitted to the board of management for • onsideration iu conjunction with other applications o f a similar nature having regard to funds available. The Chief Surveyor, Department of Lands and Survey, writing in regard to the Motueka Post Office site and the position thereof to be established as a road, sUted that his head office had now advised that the Crown would not seek compensation for the loss of area.
