MR HIROSHI SAITO 'imp A Electric Telegraph-Copy right’ - i WASHINGTON. 26th February, d j The death has occurred of Mr Hi-, -1 roshi Saito. former Japanese Ambas- ] e i sf’dor, as a result of tuberculosis. a] The late Mr Hiroshi Saito. who was j s I 53 years of age. occupied posts of inti ; creasing importance >in the diplomatic v j service of Japan for nearly 30 years, r ! culminating in his appointment as Jap- | anese Ambassador to the United States of America, a post that he filled from | 1934 to December last year. The greater part of his service abroad was spent j in America, where he was first an attache to the Japanese Embassy at i Washington in 1911. Apart from three years at the London Embassy from j 1918 to 1921 and again from 1931 to! 1932. and a short period in the Foreign j Office at Tokio, he spent the greater part of his time in the United States, , of which he was reputed to possess an 1 intimate knowledge. He also represented Japan at various world disarmament and economic conferences and e at the League of Nations.
