MAY SON AND GUNN ELIMINATED IN SEMI-FINALS I bulled Press Association) AUCKLAND, 29th January. L here was some interesting play on Saturday in the Auckland Lawn Tennis Association’s annual championships. A great surprise was created by Sturt, who defeated Mayson in the semi-final of th? men’s singles in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4, 6-3. Sturt gave a brilliant all-round exhibition, reminiscent of the great form he displayed a few years ago. In the other semi-final Bedford eliminated Gunn, also in straight sets, 7-5, 6-3, 6-1. In the semi-finals of the men's doubles Smith and Wilson played all over Charters and the Canterbury representative, Pattinson, winning 6-2, 6-4, 5-7, 6-1. The semi-final of the women’s doubles resulted : Misses Bishop and Cooke beat Misses Griffiths and St. George, 7-5, 7-5; Misses N. and M. Beverley beat Misses Macfarlane and Taylor, 6-3, 6-0. The combined doubles final was won in brilliant style by Pountney and Miss N. Beverley, who defeated Smith and Miss Cooke, 6-2. 6-2. The finals will be decided on Monday
