C Berkett got Sylvar , off the mark well and made an early . run to got close to the bunch. Native I Leaf broke badly at the start and had . no chance. The early order was Couni Parrish. I nworthy. Bon Haven. Worthy ! Merit and Sylvan moving up fast. Entering the straight Unworthy held the lead from Bon Haven. Sylvar Worthy Merit, and Welcome Guy The run to the post ! " fnv Sylvan finish strongly, followed bv j Bon Haven. Unworthy, and Worthy I Merit which broke frequently. MISDEAL IN FORM ; The Spreydon-trained Misdeal was always in a good position in the Wakefield Handicap and finished well to beat Gold Cue by one and a half lengths, with Juliana the other horse in L. F'. Berkett's bracket filling third plaee Gold Cue made the early running past : the post the first time from Misdeal. I with John Worthy six lengths away, f followed by Rough Deal. Juliana and | Radiant Prince. Going down the back . Gold Cue held his position, followed Iby Misdeal, the leading pair being | about ten lengths out from Juliana. ! which had made a good run on the | southern bend. Entering the straight J Gold Cue led Misdeal, but the Southern horse was brought through by S EdJ wa rds to win nicely from Gold Cue. j MOTUEKA TO LOYAL AVIS Loyal Avis gave a convincing display of pacing to win the Motueka Handicap of a mile and a half by three lengths from Dusky Chum. Tristan made the early running from Janet Gaynor. Dusky Chum, Balaclava. Salute. Loyal Avis, Carageen and Orleigh Mills and that was the order passing the stand the first time. Down the back Tristan held the lead from Janet Gaynor. Salute. Dusky Chum, with Loyal Avis moving up to a better position in front of Balaclava. Orleigh Mills and Carageen. On the northern bend the field closed up and was well bunched on entering the straight, where the order was Tristan. Janet Gaynor. Loyal A\ in that position from Carageen going past Balaclava and Orleigh Mills Dusky
