To-day Nelson is demonstrating what it really can do in the matter of sunshine, and if this marvellous weather continues to-morrow the shops should have an extremely busy time, as for many of you it will the first opportunity of visiting the sales. From the littlest shop to the largest store you'll find genuine bargains, and it would seem advisable at the present time to taxe every advantage of reduced prices. ** * * It is not very often that one finds a really smart costume offered at a big reduction, because suits maintain a steady price, but in one window I saw such a trim brown costume in S.W. size, and wondered how long it would remain jat the orice Obviously, it was meant 'as a draw, and is one of the star items of my tour round the shops. ** * * j Talking of brown. I saw. too. a frock jof satin-backed crepe in brown, with the skirt pleated in front, and with a j striped silk top in orange and green, i The little brown bolero to match had I striped revers. and the whole thing | looked extremely smart, I thought. ** * * | One window in town thi§ week show’s J a display of stencilled cotton bedspreads patterned variously in blue. pink, green and orange on a natural background. These spreads have good washing qualities and are excellent for kiddies’ rooms or for baches, where it won’t break your heart if someone lies down with shoes on. or the youngsters romp freely over the bed. Sp Sf, One sweet frock seen in a showroom noted for its chic, was a pale peacock blii*> georgette sheer patterned with j small w r hite flowers and worn over an 1 under-slip of art silk. It had three--1 quarter length sleeves and a waterfall ; front with accordeon pleating. As a matron's afternoon frock, it was ideal :or an informal tea party. ** * * Another model which was designed for a “gracious” woman, if you know what I mean by that, was a navy satinbacked marocain embossed in a leaf design in silk. It was in a simulated 2piece style, with cut-aw’ay front and long revers. showing white crepe inset, and fastening below this with three buttons.
