A salvage sale on belmlf of the underwriters of goods damaged b.v tin- fire on the Riinutaka attracted about 509 buyers at the Queen's Wharf to-day. They j were mostly dealers ami small sliopkeep- : ( ors. The opening bids were modest, but | the dealers quickly responded to tbo cornpetition, especially for forthcoming win , ter requirements, such as tur-lined coats fo;* women ami small winter bats. A case of coats started at £5 and ran to £67 lbs. Several cases of women's bats, Blurting similarly, brought up to £36 a case. There i was also a very biisk demand for knitting wool, with discrimination favouring fasli- I ionable colours, which made a difference ! ' U PllCeß '
