“PEBBLES ON THE BEACH”
ITo The Editor] Sir,—lt is astonishing how many people look upon cremation with horror. likewise upon any one who has the courage to emphasise the saving of land taken up by cemeteries, and the time and money of the relatives remaining who feel it incumbent upon them to erect monuments and regularly visit with flowers (which would give such pleasure if given to cur hospitals) the last resting place. 1 am entirely in agreement with “Over Seventy" in his opinion that cremation is much to be desired. To me it is only hastening the process of Nature, when all things earthly are reduced ot ashes and dust. But why encase the ashes in a cement boulder? Why not scatter them upon the mighty ocean to symbolise the freedom of the spirit then released?—l am, etc., “UNDER SEVENTY." Stoke, 20th January.
