WELLINGTON MEETING DEFAULTER WINS CUP BRILLIANTLY STAKES TO BEAULIVRE TUnited Press Association! WELLINGTON, This Day. The feature of the racing on the opening day of the Wellington Racing Club’s summer meeting at Trentham yesterday was the win of the three-year-old Defaulter in the Wellington Cup. In carrying 8.11 he established a weight-carrying record for one of his age, the previous best having been Renown’s 8.10 at Hutt Park in 1901. Since the race has been run at Trentham Rapine held the honour of having been the only three-year-old to win before Defaulter. There was a large attendance for a midweek day and with the favourites doing so well the day’s turnover showed a substantial increase on last year’s opening, which was on a Tuesday. The figures were £57,284 compared with a total of £46,363, an increase of £10,921.
