JUNIOR CRICKET CHAMPIONSHIP DONALD AGAIN BATS BRILLIANTLY By defeating Maitai at the Botanies on Saturday, Victory have made the junior championship in a very open position for all teams. Maitai won the toss and sent Victory in to bat on an easy wicket. Lumber and Garguilo took first strike, and soon set about collecting runs. The first wicket fell when 85 runs were on the board. Garguilo was bowled for 33. Donald soon settled down, and the scoring continued at a brisk pace. Lumber was out next, after a chaneeless innings for 55. Mayers and Holland failed to stay long, and four wickets were down for 112 runs. Goodyer was more patient than usual in collecting 12. Five were down for 165 after one and a half hours of olay Donald (79) was bowled when the score was 202 for seven wickets, and at 215 for seven Victory declared their innings closed. Hay was the most successful bowler for Maitai. He bowled five overs and took four for 42. Burn, two for 38, and Townsend one for 39 shared the other wickets. Maitai commenced their innings at 4.15 p.m Townsend and Mclvor opened, and although dropped before he scored Townsend hit hard and often, and when he went his total was 35. and two were down for 42. Gamboni set his back to the wall for a solid 10. J. Goodman and Bennett were both dismissed by brilliant catches by Garguilo at point, and Hawkes was well held by Mayors on the boundary. Seven were down for 74. Batchelor was solid for his 29 not out, and with H. Goodman tried to play out time, but frequent bowling changes met with success, and Donald had the last man caught when there was only five minutes left to play. Maitai's total reached 117. leaving Victory the winners by 98 runs on the first innings. Bowling for Victory. Holland (12 overs) took four for 33. Hughes three for 22, Donald one for 25, and Lumber one for 28. During Donald's innings of 79 be passed the 500 run mark for the season a fine performance for a junior player.
