DRUNKEN ESCAPADE
TWO FIREMEN SENTENCED I United Press Association’ DUNEDIN. This Day. The sequel to a drunken escapade when two firemen from the steamer Tainui, Leonard Jock Appott (24) and William Westcott (27), converted a' motor-truck and, driving recklessly, finally plunging it over a 30 foot wall into the Leith River, was told in the Court this morning when the men pleaded guilty. Damage to the truck was estimated at £9O. The police stated that the men escaped injury miraculously. They were chased to Port Chalmers in a taxi and were located on the vessel. They were sentenced to three month’s imprisonment in Wellington prison, to be placed on board the Tainui at that port if she leaves before the expiry of the sentence.
