FROM NEW YORK SUBWAY CONSPIRACY OF TURNSTILE OPERATORS (UP A.—By Electric Telegraph Copyright l (Received 18th January, 9.0 a.m.) NEW YORK, 16th January. The theft during the past three years of 24,000,000 nickels (1,200.000 dollars) from the municipal subway system was revealed to-day with the arrest of two change booth clerks, who are alleged to be members of a ring of 30 employees. The District Attorney, Mr Thomas Dewey, said that the conspiracy, which netted members 1500 dollars daily at its height, was carried out through the co-operation of a number of the maintenance men who turned back the turnstile indicators before handing over the collections to the clerks. The thefts involved 15 subway stations. Additional arrests are expected.
