NEW PILOT ARRIVES
FOR COOK STRAIT AIRWAYS A pilot with experience in the Royal Air Force, England, and latterly in Australian air services, Mr G. Moreland arrived by plane last evening to take up a position with Cook Strait Airways. He will be stationed at Nelson. Mr Moreland arrived at Wellington yesterday by the Wanganella from Sydney. Mr Moreland said that his flying career began with a short-service commission in the Royal Air Force. He carried out his training at Montrose, in Scotland, and afterward at Boscombe Down, Wiltshire. In addition to his second class navigating license Mr Moreland is a licensed ground engineer. He holds a B.Com. degree of the Melbourne University. He was runner-up for the middleweight boxing championship of the Royal Air Force.
At the expiry of his commission, Mr Moreland came out to Australia and for some time was flying for North Queensland Airways, on the CeirnsTownsville section of their service between Brisbane and Cairns. Later he joined the Macßobertson-Miller service, flying between Perth and Darwin. He remained on this route till three weeks ago, whep he left for New Zealand. Mr Moreland is accompanied by his wife and young daughter. Mrs Moreland is an Edinburgh woman, and hopes to meet many Scottish friends in New Zealand. Both are paying their first visit to New Zealand.
