Give Yourself Time

Everyone enjoys being busy but there are limits, and if you have too much to do you soon begin to get tired and cross. You must have time to rest, to sit down and do nothing in particular; you ought to have an hour or two every day to potter about, talk casually, read a book, or listen quietly to some music. It is good for your mind as well as your body, and enables you to keep a grip of yourself, even when things are at their most difficult. Nervy people, people who are very capable, ; and those who must always get everything done as quickly as possible have the most difficulty in learning to relax. It is easiest to rest after meals. You naturally feel inclined to sit still for a bit, and it helps if you smoke. Cooltipt cigarettes give a particularly soothing, cooling smoke, because the filter tips eliminate so much of the nicotine and tarry matter, which are apt to irritate the throat and dry the palate. Don’t smoke your cigarette quickly but slowly and reflectively. Then it has an enjoyable soothing effect. Different people find relaxation best at different times of the day. After lunch is a favourite time for a rest, but workers rarely get this. For them the evening is their time for recreation, but even then it is a mistake to come home and then rush straight out again. If you can, reserve half an hour for doing nothing in particular before you meet your friends or go out somewhere again.
