NELSON CRICKET UMPIRES ON STRIKE
NO DUTIES PERFORMED ON SATURDAY APPOINTMENT OF NON-ASSOCIA-TION UMPIRE FOR HAWKE CUP ELIMINATION MATCH When the Nelson City Cricket Association competition matches were about to commence at Trafalgar Park on Saturday, the members of the Nelson Umpires’ Association appointed for the games did not fulfil their duties as a protest against the appointment by the District Cricket Association of one umpire who is not a member of the association for the Hawke Cup elimination match between Nelson and Manawatu. The Nelson Umpires’ Association members have been performing weekly duties for the City Association matches and they consider the District Association should have called two of their members for this week s match against Manawatu. On Saturday the umpiring was done by cricketers on the ground assisted by players.
