LOYAL NELSON LODGE ANNUAL MEETING HELD The annual meeting of the Loyal Nelson Lodge was held in the Oddfellows’ Hall when the Noble Brand, Sis. D. Bright, presided over a good attendance of members and visitors. Supporting the N.G. in their respective chairs were: I.P.N.G. Bro. L. Coleman; V.G.. Bro. R. Simpson; Guardian, Bro. W. H. Prebblc; Warden, Bro. F. Christall; E.S.. Bro. G. Cross (acting), F.S., Bro. M. L. Anderson. The medical officer’s report was presented and all claims for sick pay were passed for payment. At 8 p.m. members present stood while the Disterict Officers entered the room, the District G.M. being supported by the following officers: D.D.G.M., Bro. V. Stade: Dist. Sec., Bro. F. H. Cooke: Dist. Treas.. Bro. D. D. Merritt: I. P. D. G. M.. Bro. C. E. Hammond: P.D.G.M.. Bro. R. Haycock: and P.D.G.M.. Bro. W. Anderson. The N.G. extended a welcome to the District Officers and they were invited to occupy the I.P.N.G.’s chairs. Bro. W. Marlin replied on behalf of the district officers to the welcome extended to them. The Lodge report was read by T.P.D.G. Bro. F. I. Armstrong, and the Lodge balance sheet which was presented to members showed that the past year had been a record one and the various funds are in a very satisfactory and financial state. Other reports presented were Hall Committee by Bro. G. H. Hammond, and the Social Committee by Sis. A. M. Christall. These balance sheets also showed that these two committees have enjoyed a record year.

After a general discussion upon the balance sheets the election of officers for the ensuing six months was proceeded with, and resulted as follows: N.G., Bro. R. Simpson; V.G., Sis. J. Neilson; F.S., Bro. S. Thomas: deputies to District Conference, Bros. M. L. Anderson, G. Hammond, C. Hammond, G. Ccleman, H. Prebble, A. Stewart, A. Cross; Hall Committee, Bros. G. H. Hammond, F. I. Armstrong, and G. S. Coleman; Social Committee, Sis. A. M. Christall, D. Bright, A. Coleman, V. Coleman, J. Neilson, and Mrs Haines, Bros. F. Christall, G. Lyon, H. Stent, H. Hounsell, B. Austin, and J. Sharland; Lodge Management Committee, Bros. C. E. Hammond, W. H. Prebble, G. Hammond. A discussion took place in connection with the entertainment of the Greymouth and Wellington visitors who intend paying a visit to Nelson at Easter time and a report of arrangements to date was presented. Bro. R. Foote of Petone was a visitor to the Lodge and in reply to the N.G.’s welcome said that he was pleased to have the privilege of attending the meeting and renewing friendships with the many friends in Nelson. Bro. G. Scott replied to the N.G.’s welcome on behalf of the visitors from the Loyal Howard Lodge. At this stage the D.G.M., Bro. W Martin, performed the installation ceremony of the newly elected members who were applauded upon taking their respective chairs. The retiring 1.P.N.G., Bro. R. L. Coleman, was presented with a P.G.’s collar and his name is to be inscribed on the Honours Board. The various office bearers returned thanks to the Lodge for the confidence which members have placed in them. A vote of thanks was accorded to the district officers for attending the Lodge and installing the newly-elected officers, and the district officers individually returned thanks. There being no further business the Lodge closed after which a dainty supper was dispensed by the ladies of the social committee, and members and visitors settled down to a game of bowls.
