“MAN OF IRON”

| FIRM POLITICAL PURPOSE IBy Air Mail—Owr Correspondent! LONDON, Bth December. There is not the slightest cloubt the troubles in Rumania during King! Carol’s visit to London and Paris were instigated from Berlin. It was quite a * characteristic Teutonic trick, and fully in accord with past tradition. Fortunately. both for King Carol and the) Rumanian people, the situation was I always kept well in hand by the Minister (*• charge. M. Armand Calinesco, who rned the rather over-done title I “Mari of Iron” by his drastic handling of the Iron Guard emeute last spring. Perhaps the more recent fate of Iron Guard Raders, alleged to be escaping [ from their prison convoy, reflects the * same firm political purpose. M. Calinesco holds at present the dual posts of Education and Home Office Minister, but the prophets in Bucharest are tipping him ns Rumania’s future Prime Minister. He is now engaged on an attempt to create a new administration in Fumania, on constitutional lines. but based on a Parliament elected by occupational representation. Like other influenti il Rumanians, he has sent his son to an English public school—and wears a monocle.
