CAR OVER BLUFF

FIVE OCCUPANTS INJURED j 1 1!rutert PreHH Association ' WANGANUI, 30th December. The first aid equipment housed in Kakatahi School, a small country institution on the Parapara road, was made good use of when a car plunged 260 feet down Hirotis Bluff, and the five occupants were injured—Mr Ben J Cadby, Miss Ann Cadby. Mrs A. Sven- ! son. and Miss Margaret Campbell, all of Tangataua, and Mr William Thomp- I son, Pokaka. Mr Thompson was severely cut about the neck, and Mr Cadby was also bleeding profusely. Mr E. N. Meredith, manager of Whiteman’s Station, and the Baddeley Brothers, Kakatahi, arrived on the scene, and after obtaining first aid material from the school, Mr Meredith applied his expert first aid knowledge to good purpose, evidently saving the life of Mr Thompson, who was suffering from a great loss of blood. All five occupants were admitted to hospital, the others with abrasions and shock, and are progressing favourably. The acident was witnessed by the occupants of a passing car who, after calling help and rendering assistance, went on. Inquiries are being made to ascertainthe names of the occupants of that car.
