In a one-day game the touring Auckland cricket team beat South Canterbury by 135 runs cn the first innings. The home side batter first, making 78 (Smith 33). Sneddon took three for 20, Scott two for 6. Weir two for 8, Sale two for 1, and Cowie one for 8. Auckland replied with 213 (Wallace 72 not out, Vivian 52, Scott 35). Purcell bowled well, taking six for 41, Smith three for 53, Taylor one for 17. At stumps the home side had lost three wickets for 44 (Smith 13). Jackman took one for 14 and Pearson one for 11.
