PRICES FIRM ON CHRISTCHURCH CONTINENTAL BUYERS ACTIVE TOP PRICE FOR HALF-BRED 15d TIMARU, This Day. At the Timaru wool sale held this morning, when a catalogue of just on 18.000 bales was offered, there was a full bench of buyers and prices were firm on the Christchurch auction earlier in the week. Owing to the wet winter and spring the wool did not open up in the best condition, a good percentage showing the effect of the weather. In view of this prices must be considered very satisfactory The Continent look the greater percentage of the offering, Bradford being fairly quiet. Japan was more in the market than at the earlier auctions, while a fair quantity was also taken by America. Dominion mills took only lots of which they were short.
The top price for half-bred was 15d, which figure was reached on several occasions. Merino wool was not forward in large quantity, top price being 14Ad. Threequarter-bred sold well, the top price reaching 13Jd. There was keen demand for crossbreds, which reached llsd. Only a few lots of Corriedale came under the hammer, the top price being 13jd. Merino and half-bred pieces were in keen demandfi up to lid being paid for merino =*nd lljd for halfbred, Three-quarter-bred pieces reached 10}d, and half-bred necks 11 gd. The passings were about 5 per cent.
