IU P.A.—H.v Electric Teleuraph Copyright) AUCKLAND, This Day. The first news of the drowning of Mr George Bright. Superintnedent of the Suva Fire Brigade, was received in a cable from the Suva Fire Board to the Auckland Fire Station, where his brother, Mr Eric Bright, is employed. His mother, Mrs H. Bright, resides at Sandringham, Auckland.

Mr George Bright was born in Sydney but lived most of his life in Auckland. He joined the Central Fire Station staff at the age of 21, and remained until he became deputy-super-intendent at Suva 12 years ago. He received high praise for his work in the disastrous lire at the copra store of Morris Hedstrom, Ltd., in March, 1937, when his right arm was severely burnt.
