AGRICULTURAL AND PASTORAL ASSOCIATION MONTHLY MEETING OF COMMITTEE The monthly meeting of the commit- ; tee of the Nelson A. and P. Associa- , tion was attended by Messrs H. F. Palmer (president), C. R. Sutton, F. C. Page, G. W. Best. D. S. Max, E. W. Win, G. W. Wilkes. A. Croucher, E. H. Harkness, W Martin, L. A. Higgins, R. H. Hammond, P. S. Haycock, J. Biggar, A. N. Wilkinson, W. Jessop, A. C. Challies. L. P. Russ, J. Hildyard, M. Rogers, A. E. Max. W. Hill, G. L. Mead. N. L. Kerr. An apology for absence was received from J. G. Ingram. Mr T. H. Mead, Motueka, v.\,: c!,.fled a member of the Association. PRIZE MONEY It was resolved that prize money he paid out at the secretary’s office on and after Wednesday next, the 13th instant. A SUCCESSFUL EVENT rir A. E. Max spoke of the splendid manner in which the show was con- , ducted. The parking arrangements were j carried out without a hitch and there was no congestion whatever. (Over 1000 cars were parked on the ground). ! The president stated that he had been j very pleased with the manner in which ; everything had been carried out. He ! wished to thank the stewards and j judges for the efficient manner in i which the work had been done, j Mr L. A. Higgins stated that he had I head nothing but praise for the Show. ; the general opinion being that it was I the best Show ever held on the ground. A motion of thanks to the judges at the Show was carried unanimously. It was resolved that Mr J. Ruff, of | Nelson, be thanked for his assistance to ! visiting competitors at the Show. A motion of thanks to the secretary was carried by acclamation. On Mr P. S. Haycock’s motion it was resolved that the farm and garden pro- ! duce section be revised and an effort | made to secure more entries in this j department which was easilj' the poor- j ! est in the Show. ; TAR SEALING j A lengthy discussion ensued on the i ! necessity of having the road from the ! railway crossing to the entrance gates j of the Show grounds tar-sealed. It was resolved on Mr Wilkes’s mo-j tion that a deputation consisting of the presidents of the A. and P. Association, j Trotting Club, Jockey Club. Farmers' j Union and Automobile Association wait on the Council to ask for its endorsement of the scheme. It is not expected | that the Council can do the work, but j it is hoped that the Government will assist. APPOINTMENT OF SECRETARY ; It was resolved that applications be j called for the position of secretary to the Association. These arc to close on ■ 4th February and a special meeting of j the committee is to be held on the 11th I February to consider the applications! and make a permanent appointment. j It was resolved that a letter be sent! to Mr Albert Gibbs sympathising with I him in his present illness, and expressing the hope for his speedy recovery. It was resolved on Mr A. E. Max’s motion that a hearty vote of thanks be accorded to the fat lamb competition committee, Messrs C. R. Sutton, W. D. Dron, A. C. Challies and the manager of the Freezing Works. Mr J. H. Mitchell. Mr Max spoke of the success of the function and also of the small number of the A. and P. committee | Before closing the meeting the president wished those present the compliments of the season which were heartily reciprocated.
