CONCILIATION COUNCIL
FROXT-OF-HOUSE EMPLOYEES’ , DISPUTE AGREEMENT REACHED A meeting of the Conciliation Council was held yesterday before Mr M. J. Reardon. Commissioner, to consider Nelson and Westland Front-of-House ; employees' dispute. This dispute covers theatre employees apart from motion j. picture projectionists. The agent for the union was Mr F. L. Turley, and the agents for the employers Mr J. B. Trudgeon. j Complete agreement was reached on i the lines of the recently issued Taranaki. Wellington, Marlborough and Can- ! terbury award. Rates of pay were generally increased: Male attendants, from £3 16s to £4 10s: youths or females, from £1 16s to £2 6s: caretakers, from £4 12s 6d to £4 15s. Performance rates which were pre- ; vicusly 4s per performance for picture j shows and 5s for other shows have been graduated in respect to picture shows : as follows: Towns over 7500 population. 5s 6d per performance: towns 2750 to 7500 population, 5s .per performance: ■ towns under 2750 population, a rate to be agreed upon between the employer and the union. For other shows the rate has been I raised to 6s per performance, j Hours of work for caretakers were J fixed at 40 instead of 44. Annual holidays for weekly workers, formerly 10 days for caretakers and 7 | days for other workers, are now 12 j continuous working days and 9 conI tinuous working days respectively. Provision is also made for an annual holiday for casual workers who are I continuously employed, j Hourly rates for cleaners were inI creased from 2s for males to 2s 4d. The , i rate for females was unchanged. A i weekly rate was agreed for the new j award at: Male cleaners. £4 6s: female I cleaners. £2 10s. for a 40-hour week.
