REPLACING INSULIN

CABBAGE FOR DIABETES EXPERIMENTS IN ENGLAND LONDON, Ist December. It is suggested that the common cabbage may replace insulin for diabetics as the result of a discovery by Professor A. D. Macdonald, Leech Professor of Pharmacology at Manchester University, and Dr. Wislicki, also of Manchester, who produced an extract which was said to have been as effective when taken by the mouth as by injection. An experiment upon a de-pancreatis-ed dog showed that it was possible to control blood sugar by the cabbage extract alone without insulin. The “Lancet” utters a warning against over-enthusiasm, but regards the experiments as encouraging.
