INSULATION PLAN
THE FIRST STEP STATEMENT BY PRIME MINISTER WELLINGTON, This Day. The Government’s long talked of plan for insulation lies revealed in the regulations to govern the control of imports and the licensing of exports. This was made clear by Mr M. J. Savage, Prime Minister, in an interview to-day. In pointing out that it was an attempt on the part of the Government to build New Zealand, Mr Savage said it was the Government’s reply to those people who thought it just a political stunt when the Government talked about insulating the Dominion from unfair competition overseas “This is a practical expression of our insulation plan,” he said. He emphasised that the step was not taken simply to meet an emergency; it was part of a definite plan of national development. Questioned as to the duration of the plan, he said: “It will be for ever, I hope.”
Mr Savage said the Government was not going to be responsible for any reduction in the standard of life.
