ONE-MAN GAS WORKS

There is a remarkable "one-man” gas works at Seascale (Cumberland). The entire works are run and managed by one man. Mr N. Lee. He not only attends to the complete production of gas for the whole of Seascale. but also prepares by-products. Coke is made up into sacks by him, arid tar is pumped into barrels for sole to the 600 inhabitants. As if this were not a fulltime job. Mr Lee installs all meters and cooking appliances and does the plumbing work. In his “spare time” he tends a neatly-kept garden behind the works, and every two years he paints the two gasometers.
