NEW MASTER APPOINTED MlniVrt Urea* A«moiiti9nl AUCKLAND. Cth December. After more than 30 years’ service with the Huddart Parker Line. Captain R. Darroch, master of the visiting liner We.stralia, has been appointed to command the Wanganella. Captain Dar- ( roch w’ill succeed Captain G .B. Bates, who has commanded the Wanganella since she was introduced on the Tasman run in 1932. Captain Bates went on special leave in October. The Wangaj nella is undergoing overhaul in Syd--1 ney and will sail for Wellington on 16th December with Captain Darroch in command. 1 Since he joined the company. Cap--1 tain Darroch has been in command of i every one of its fleet, cither permanl ently or as relieving master. He first joined the ill-fated Wimmera. which was later mined off the New Zealand coast, at Greenock, Scotland, as third officer of the Ulimaroa on the bourne-Hobart-Bluff-Dunedin-Lyttelton-Wlelington-Sydney run. and was appointed to the command of the Wcstralia, in which he is now making his last nil. in 1930.
