DAMAGE TO SHIP
COLLISION WITH TUG HARBOUR BOARD TO RAY •United Press Association 1 AUCKLAND, 6th December. The damage to the Federal Line’s mot-or-vessel Essex, which was fouled by the Auckland Harbour Boards tug Te Awhjna on 11th A.ugpst, amounted to i £.1026. The board received a letter from j its solicitors staling that in their opin- j io;. the board was liable for the full • damage caused to the Essex. Instructions were given by the board to its solicitors to pay the amount without prejudice in full settlement of the company’s claim. Salvaging and reconditioning of the Te Awhina cost a total of £7500, which has been pail) out of reserves. The board's insurance and oilier reserve funds, which are invested in Government stock and in! mortgages, total £148,5C0.
