They are keeping the Republicans guessing by bombing first one region and then another. Meantime they are busily reorganising and dividing the old north army into two parts, the first to hold the front from the Pyrenees to the Ebro, the second to deal with southern Aragon and Valencia. 5000 MORE VOLUNTEERS TO LEAVE LONDON. sth December. The “News Chronicle’s” Geneva correspondent says that the commission for the withdrawal of volunteers in Spain, reports that all foreign volunteers on the Catalonian front, numbering 5000, are going home. DETENTION OF WHEAT SHIPS I British Official Wireless) RUGBY. sth December. In a House of Commons answer. Mr R. A. Butler, Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs, replying to a question whether General Franco had given any explanation regarding the arrest and detention of two Greek wheat ships recently, said that full information had not yet been received from the British agent at Burgos. Concerning other ships under detention he assured the House that these cases were being actively pursued, and he sincerely hoped that the British Government would receive satisfaction. ASSURANCE BY FRANCO (Received 6th December, 11 a.m.) LONDON, sth December. It is authoritatively stated that General Franco has given an assurance that wheat ships between Rumania and Britain will be given an uninterrupted passage following the protest cabled on 28th November to which a list of the wheat ships was attached.
