HOW HE BEGAN
Lord Duveen, the famous art dealer and donor of many treasures to national collections, comes of a Dutch family which owes its rise to fortune to the enterprise of a lad of 12. At that age Henry Duveen left a humble home in Holland for America w’th two big carpet bags filled with old »elft blue china. Landing at Boston, he quickly disposed of his wares, sent home for larger supplies. and so laid ‘he foundations of a business which within a few years, was operating on • big scale in the art markets of two continents.
