REPRESENTATIVE GAME AT MAGGIE CREEK WAIMEA COMBINED TEAM DEFEATS MIDLAND j A very interesting game was played at I lie week-end when Waimea defeated the j Midland team by fi\e wickets. Midland winning the toss elected to hat. For a start wickets fell fairly frequently until lJaigent and Russ became 51, in which were * included three & si\cl •ml live fours. Allerby, who also made a good stand hit three sixes and two fours. The innings closed at 151. Davies (captain), and Joyce bore the brunt of the attack and secured good figures. Waimea, after losing the first wicket with the total at only one. went on steadily to a total of 192. The top scores were obtained by Newman 30, Max 29, Joyce 1111,1 Davies 27 each and Wells 21 not out. It was a fine display of batting. The best bowling figures were secured by Baigent and Russ. Midland in their second innings secur. e l only 65 runs, of which Allerby had 24 before being caught by Green. Shuttleworth bowled wall to capture five wickets for 19 runs. Waimea at the close of play had five down for 41, Neale and Alax each scoring 15. At the conclusion of the game Mr Neale and Mr Davies thanked the Midland subassociation for the opportunity to play and expressed the hope that a return match would he played later. M r A. Me. I-Onochie thanked the Waimea players for coming through. The ladies were thanked for the fine manner in which they did the catering.
