The Rhodes Scholarship Selection Committee is sitting at Government House to consider the claims of eight nominees, and the two selected will be the 52nd and 53rd New Zealanders to be so honoured. Personal appearance before the committee is essential for every candidate save in very special circumstances, and the selection is carried out with the utmost fidelity to the wishes of the founder. PROPOSED ASSOCIATION WELLINGTON, This Day. An announcement that an association of Rhodes Scholars in New Zealand is in process of formation was made by Professor Miles, during a discussion at Victoria University College Council last night. He said it had been discussed since the recent visit of Lord Lothian, secretary of the Rholes Trust in London. and it had been agreed to go ahead. In an interview to-day Professor Miles said the idea was simply that if, for example, the Trust wanted to consult the New Zealand Rhodes Scholars the Association would be a convenient j channel: also it was expected thal the Association would play a part in choosing representatives of Rhodes Scholars on the selection committee. The membership of such an association at the present time would be about fifteen.
