WAKEFIELD

WOMEN’S INSTITUTE The November meeting of the Wakefield Women’s Institute took the form of an open meeting, with an effort for the Cripple Children’s Fund. The president, Mrs Springer, took the chair and welcomed members and visitors. Mrs Chaytor the secretary read the minutes and business was dealt with. The motto was; “There are two powers to make for peace, what is right and what is fitting.” The roll call: “A gardening hint,” gave some good advice and was answered by most members. The circles connected with the Institute then gave their reports, ftlrs Shuttleworth the Garden Circle and Mrs C. Shuttleworth the play reading circle. Both circles show activities which add greatly to the interests of the Institute here. During the afternoon interval, the stall holders were busy. There were a cake, jumble and mystery parcel stalls. A silk cushion given by two members was rallied. The result was that a good sum was raised for the Crippled Children’s Fund. A play reading was much enjoyed, the members were Mrs R. Taylor and Misses B. Shea, and N. Springer. The competition results: “Three best

blooms in my garden" Mrs Lawrence 1. Mrs N. Shea 2. The president then thanked all fori their attendance and assistance. The National Anthem closed the meeting.
