WELLINGTON FREE AMBULANCE

FULLY EQUIPPED UNIT PRESENTED Lust week the Wellington Free Ambulance received the free gift of a fully equipped motor ambulance from General Motors New Zealand Limited. Built on the latest Chevrolet chassis, to the specifications of the Superintendent of the Wellington Free Ambulance, the new unit will carry three patients lying down cr six seated. “Pillow'’ rubber covers the one fixed bed and the movable stretcher, while a third collapsible stretcher can be slung from the roof ii se of necessity. making the presentation at a mu .ng of the Wellington Free Ambulance Board, Mr G. C. Seers, Managing Director of General Motors New Zealand Limited, expressed the appreciation of his company for the highly important community service the Free Ambulance had given to the residents «>f Wellington and surrounding districts. A great many of his company’s stall resided in the Hutt Valley, and he fell it was really not more than a duty to see that they were provided with the most efficient transport in the case of accident or illness. It was for this reason that the gift of the ambulance had been decided on. In commending the | work of the Wellington Free Ambulance, Mr Seers paid a tribute to the very fine reputation enjoyed by the staff, including the Superintendent, drivers and the first aid men. Mr Seers then handed over the keys of the car to Sir Charles Norwood, President of the Wellington Free Ambulance Board. In accepting the keys on behalf of I the Free Ambulance, Sir Charles Norwood expressed thanks for this fine gift, and stated that, from his own know- ; ledge gained during visits to General ; Motors plants overseas, he knew that , Mr Seers was giving practical expres- : si on to what he knew was a world , Policy of the Company he represented. Mr C. H. Chapman, M.P., one of the * original members of the Board, also ex--1 pressed his appreciation of the gift. He stated that the gift would never have ' been made had it not been that the executive heads of the firm had been impressed with the efficiency of the service rendered. It was a splendid ex--1 ample to other industrial concerns. , Other members of the Board also joined j m thanking the company for its valu- ! able gift.
